HUNTING

Having 14,000+ plus acres for your use, I offer semi-guided archery hunts for muleys, whitetails, antelope, turkeys, and buffalo.

To be honest, it is tough hunting, sometimes you get caught with no cover and no way to hide. The most success I have for antelope is blinds on a waterhole and decoying. Decoying only works for about a 3 week period in September before breeding season, it is tough but extremely exciting. I have both a buck and a doe decoy for you to use. Stalking antelope is extremely tough, with little success since they have 10x vision, but it is possible. It is imperative for all archery hunters to practice at distances of 40 to 50 yards as conditions in this country require longer shooting.

For deer, tree stands, blinds and stalking all work, blinds and stands being the best. Both species inhabit the ranch, but you can zero in on what you want in certain areas. The hills have areas of a fire that went through in 1998, areas of logging, and some places that haven't been touched, so you chose what you want to hunt in.

Turkeys are easiest in spring using a call, but fun to hunt both seasons.

There are Pope and Young animals on the ranch, but they didn't get that way by being stupid.

You can bring your tent, camper, or stay at the house, what ever you want. I try to limit it to no more than four antelope hunters or six deer hunters at a time. I like to think that your hunt should not be crowded. You should allow 4-5 days per species.

ATV's are allowed, but going to and from a hunting area only!!! And never off the established trails except for game retrieval. This is something I stand firm on. If you want to be able to drive everywhere, do it somewhere else, if you drive off the trails, you will find your self driving home.

As for the great shaggy beast, buffalo, archery or rifle is allowed and no license required. Hunts are available year round but for those of you who want the best mount and/or robe, late November through January is the best. These are huge animals, the largest in North America, cows frequently weigh over 1000 and some bulls will hit a full ton.

There are different hunt packages available as follows: Cows hunts are based on the hot hanging weight of the carcass and that is $1.85/ lb plus a $200 hunt fee. For example a 900 pound cow will hang approximately 550 lbs. Meat bull hunts , (bulls 2yrs and under) are a flat rate of $1450. Bulls in the 3-5 year range are $2,500 and trophy bulls are $3,500 .

All these costs on the buffalo hunts include my help field dressing, skinning and transporting to the butcher. You get the head, hide and any or all of the meat. If you do not want all of the meat, you only pay the butcher for the cutting and wrapping of the meat you take.

Please note that there are a limited amount of animals to take each year, so booking your hunt is important. I will have room for about 15 antelope hunters, about 30 deer hunters, and 20 turkey hunters per year. Even the amount of buffalo hunters is limited due to availability of animals to be taken from the herd. So booking is important and a $50.00/person nonrefundable deposit is required to hold your spot for deer, antelope and turkeys.
